The Old Oakhamian Masonic Lodge is probably one of the most regular and widely supported sections running under the Old Oakhamian banner.

Since its consecration in 1965, the Lodge has been fortunate to have had the support from Oakham’s Headmasters, who have enabled us to hold meetings at the School. We meet four times a year, in March, May, October and December, at the BAF Smith Pavilion, dining afterwards at the Barraclough Hall.

The Lodge has become a focal point for so many Old Boys, who have kept up their association with the School, together with the ideals furthered by Freemasonry such as integrity, respect, friendship and charity. Many travel a long distance, and even from abroad, to attend our meetings. The membership covers a wide range of Old Boys, from more recent leavers to a few who can remember life at Oakham in the post war years. We are able to conjoin all our experiences and enjoy the tales of bygone years in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

The Lodge is highly rated within the Masonic Province of Leicestershire and Rutland and attracts many visitors, who are always made welcome. We have a commendable charity record and support a number of charities local to Oakham, including The Foundation.

The Old Oakhamian Lodge is also a proud member of the Federation of School Lodges. In 1909, five school Lodges, meeting in London, decided to form a standing committee and they adopted the title of Public School Lodge’s Council in 1936 and have now expanded to thirty five participating Lodges.

CHARITY

Charitable giving and activity is a central principle for Freemasons.  The Old Oakhamian Lodge tends to focus its charitable assistance on the School and on charities local to Oakham and Rutland.  The Lodge is a longstanding supporter of the Oakham Foundation but also supports a wealth of local charitable initiatives including, Rutland Food Bank, Midlands Air Ambulance and the East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme. VALE OF CATMOS LODGE

The Old Oakhamian Lodge has very close ties to the Vale of Catmos Lodge No.1265, which also meets in Oakham, utilising school facilities for their meetings since 2008. Several members of the Old Oakhamian Lodge are also members of Vale of Catmos. Yoou can find out more about his lodge HERE

WOMEN IN FREEMASONRY

Whilst the Old Oakhamian Lodge, specifically, is a male-only society, we are developing close ties with the rulers of Women Freemasonry to encourage and support female alumni to become Freemasons. Women Freemasons have been meeting across the country for over 100 years. Both men's and women's lodges are happy being two separate groups. There are two female-only Lodges in Leicestershire, they are the Lodge Crusader No.108 & Coeur de Lion No.195

There are two female-only Grand Lodges: The Order of Women Freemasons and HFAF (Honourable Fraternity of Ancient Freemasons) – Freemasonry for Women. They both follow exactly the same ceremonies and wear the same regalia as male Freemasons, and they often work closely with community and charity projects.

The United Grand Lodge of England has an excellent working relationship with both Grand Lodges. Freemasonry for Women members took part in Open House London in 2019 in order to showcase female Freemasonry, whilst both organisations take part in joint Freshers’ Fairs up and down the country as part of the university scheme.
