Donation of £1000 to Air Ambulance (DLRAA)
The Air Ambulance service receives no funding from the Government or National Lottery and relies entirely on donations. The local air ambulance (DLRAA) is based at East Midlands Airport and covers the three counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The critical care paramedics, doctors and pilots attend an average of ten rescue missions a day and within minutes, they can be on the ground delivering lifesaving care at road traffic collisions, sports events, and industrial accidents or for medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest, stroke or accidents in the home.
Peter Hems, Lodge Treasurer, and David Alcraft, Lodge Charity Steward, seen here presenting a cheque for £1000 to staff at the Air Ambulance depot in Oakham.
The air ambulance gives people the very best chance of survival and recovery and with Rutland being a rural location some distance from major trauma centres an evacuation by helicopter flying at 185mph and carrying the very latest lifesaving equipment gives a patient the best chance of survival and recovery.
The Old Oakhamian Lodge decided to donate £500 to support the work of the DLRAA and with match funding from the Leicestershire and Rutland Freemason Charity was able to increase its donation to £1000.
